How to turn thoughts into action

Separate what you know from what your mind is adding, then turn what you know into one physical action.

Thoughts and actions live in different places. Thoughts can go on forever without anything changing. Actions happen once, and the world is different afterward.

The bridge is translation. Take a thought like "I should really reach out to her" and ask what it looks like as a movement: pick up the phone, type her name, write one sentence.

Along the way, notice what's fact and what's story. "I haven't reached out" is a fact. "She probably doesn't want to hear from me" is a story. You can act on facts. Stories just keep you thinking.

Thought to movement

  1. 1.Write the thought you keep having about something you should do.
  2. 2.Underline the fact in it. Cross out the story.
  3. 3.Rewrite the fact as a movement: what would your hands do first?
  4. 4.Do that movement now.

Next

Take the thought you've been having and do its first movement now.
