How to take action

Turn the intention into a physical action you can start in the next two minutes, then start before you feel ready.

There's a gap between knowing and doing. Most advice tries to close it with more knowing: more information, more planning, more motivation. But if you already know what needs to happen, more knowing just makes the gap wider.

Action happens at the level of the body. You don't "improve your health"; you put on your shoes. You don't "fix the relationship"; you send one message. The more physical the step, the easier it is to take.

Readiness is overrated. People who act a lot don't feel ready more often. They've just stopped waiting for the feeling before they move.

Make it visible

  1. 1.Write what you intend to do.
  2. 2.Rewrite it as something a camera could see you doing. Start with a verb: open, write, call, stand up.
  3. 3.If it would take more than a few minutes, make it smaller.
  4. 4.Do it now, while the sentence is still in front of you.
